In English & supported throughout all subjects, we aim to empower & enrich our children’s vocabulary & so prepare them for the next stage in their educational journey (& beyond) so that no child is hindered or held back by a deficit of language as a result of deprivation. We want them to be able to articulate themselves & their learning through a wide bank of subject specific terminology as well as being creative & innovative in their speech & writing. We aim to inspire our children to become fluent, confident life-long readers who can discuss the joy of literature as well as develop their own style & expression through wide opportunities for writing.

One of the important aspects of the learning we endeavour to develop within the
children at St Mary's, is the contribution they can make to the school, local,
national and international community. In this way, we enable our children to
put into practice our Christian ethos.
As a result, a variety of events for fundraising are arranged at the school, often instigated by the children themselves.
In the school, the children can contribute by being elected members of the Junior Leadership Team, Merit Captains, Play Leaders or CREW council members – as well as children having a variety of roles and responsibilities within their classroom.
Within the local community, our children regularly do fundraising
for others through holding their own charity events. We participate
in the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Scheme as as part of
the scheme the children chose to create a food bank drop off
point to support others in the S6 postcode. Additionally, they
give annually to the Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project Food
Bank as part of our Harvest Thanksgiving Service.
Each year we sing in the local community to raise money for the Sheffield Children's Hospital. We also sing at local care homes to bring some Christmas cheer to those in the community.
We also have a strong tie to our local church, St Mary's, which we visit at least every half term.
Nationally and internationally the children also support Children in Need, Comic Relief & Operation Christmas Child.
