Music and Performance
We place a big focus on music and performing arts at St Mary's, as we believe that it allows
all children the chance to shine and gives pupils the opportunity to develop their confidence.
As well as our presentations of art work, poetry & prayers at the church services at St Mary's Church, the children also perform a Nativity Show in the infants and some form of Christmas performance (juniors). The results are always sensational. Key Stage 2 pupils also perform the Easter play in church, which helps retell the Easter story to our younger children.
Every Friday afternoon, all pupils participate in weekly singing lessons delivered by the fabulous Andrew Butterfield. We learn a range of traditional and contemporary songs. We have been learning about: breathing, dynamics, accuracy of pitch, vocal techniques and rhythm. We are now able to sing in rounds and harmonies (up to 4 part).
Our school choir meets with Mrs Binney every week to prepare for a range of events that they participate in throuhgout the year. We sing Christmas Carols in the community each year both in local businesses and in local care homes. We also perform concerts in school and sing at a range of events.
As well as a school, we also have a Young Voices Choir. This choir meets once a week to rehearse for the Young Voices Concert which is held at Sheffield Arena. It is an incredible experience to sing alongside other schools, sing in front of a huge audience and sing with wonderful professional singers.
Each year the Year 6 pupil's put on an amazing end of year show.
In recent years they have performed Aladdin Trouble,
Cinderella Rockerfella, Alice the Musical and Hoodwinked.
