In English & supported throughout all subjects, we aim to empower & enrich our children’s vocabulary & so prepare them for the next stage in their educational journey (& beyond) so that no child is hindered or held back by a deficit of language as a result of deprivation. We want them to be able to articulate themselves & their learning through a wide bank of subject specific terminology as well as being creative & innovative in their speech & writing. We aim to inspire our children to become fluent, confident life-long readers who can discuss the joy of literature as well as develop their own style & expression through wide opportunities for writing.

Covid19 Catch Up Funding
As a result of the unprecedented disruption to education as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the government has decided to allocate extra Catch Up Funding in order to try to mitigate some of the effects on lost learning.
This extra funding is calculated on a per pupil basis & provides each mainstream school with a total of £80.00 for each pupil from Reception (FS2) upwards.
At St Mary's CE Academy, our Catch Up Funding allocation is £14,960.00.
We have decided to use this funding to further reinforce what we had already set out to achieve as part of our School Development Plan & in response to what we know would be a challenge to get our children back on track. Our planned approaches to teaching, targeted support and wider strategies are all areas recommended as best practice by the Education Endowment Foundation (EFF).
Please see our Catch Up Funding Plan which provides an outline of what we will be doing with our allocation as well as what we envisage the effect will be from our actions.
