In English & supported throughout all subjects, we aim to empower & enrich our children’s vocabulary & so prepare them for the next stage in their educational journey (& beyond) so that no child is hindered or held back by a deficit of language as a result of deprivation. We want them to be able to articulate themselves & their learning through a wide bank of subject specific terminology as well as being creative & innovative in their speech & writing. We aim to inspire our children to become fluent, confident life-long readers who can discuss the joy of literature as well as develop their own style & expression through wide opportunities for writing.

PE @ St Mary's
At St Mary's we focus on developing the whole child and with that in mind, we put a great focus on Physical Education and developing Healthy Lifestyles. Our pupils are able to partake in a huge range sporting opportunities and competitions. Within school time, each year group enjoys several sports festivals alongside other feeder schools and DSAT schools. We have coaches from Arches who come in each half term to work alongside the classroom teachers to deliver high quality, exciting PE lessons. Outside of school of the school day, all children have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of after school clubs, such as Multi-Sports, football, netball, gymnastics, American Football, dancing, fencing, tag-rugby and many more, which change on a regular basis. As well as the traditional games and sports, pupils in Year 4 also attend weekly swimming sessions.

The Sports Premium
Each year the school receives PE and Sports Premium funding from the DfE, with the purpose to increase physical education, active lifestyles and sports for all primary school pupils
Please see how we have evidenced the impact of the funding.
The Curriculum
Each year group will have PE for one afternoon each week. They will come to school in their PE kit that day- this allows us to maximise the time so children are active for longer.
The classroom teacher delivers most PE lessons, although sometimes a specialist sports coach comes into school to deliver high quality lessons.
