In English & supported throughout all subjects, we aim to empower & enrich our children’s vocabulary & so prepare them for the next stage in their educational journey (& beyond) so that no child is hindered or held back by a deficit of language as a result of deprivation. We want them to be able to articulate themselves & their learning through a wide bank of subject specific terminology as well as being creative & innovative in their speech & writing. We aim to inspire our children to become fluent, confident life-long readers who can discuss the joy of literature as well as develop their own style & expression through wide opportunities for writing.

Young Leader's Award
The Young Leader's Award is an citizenship programme which aims to empowers young
people to make a difference in their local community whilst growing in key leadership
skills at the same time. The award is run by The Archibishop of York Youth Trust and
it is a programme we are proud to have been participating in for the past 3 years.
Last year, Key Stage 2 pupils opted to attend the 'Archie Bishop' club on a weekly basis.
In this club they learnt about the importance of citizenship, the role Christians play in
supporting a global community and they plan their own project to improve an aspect
of their local community. The children opted to run a food bank in school to collect food
and supplies to donate to the Trussell Trust to support local families during the summer
holidays. The children advertised their food bank, set it up and delivered the food.
This year we will be participating in the programme in both Key Stage One and Key
Stage Two, as well as continuing keeping the food bank running in school.
